21 Days Devotional: Day 3

A Church That Prays Together

Pastor John Siebeling

Acts 4:31 - After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Prayer services are some of my favorite services. The worship is powerful and when God’s people start lifting their voices to pray, you can feel the Lord moving. Spending personal time with God everyday is so important. I wrote about that yesterday. Today I’m writing about corporate prayer and since you are part of a church that prays together, don’t miss out on the chance to pray with your church family! Today, we’re gathering at all of our locations and online to pray together. Our theme for this 21 Days of Fasting and Prayer is This Year. My Life. Our Church. We’re covering all that in prayer today.

Our prayer rallies are really simple. We start off with a few minutes of worship. Then, I’ll share a short encouraging message from God’s Word for a few minutes, and then I always like to lead us corporately through The Lord’s Prayer. Jesus said, “Therefore, you should pray like this…” and then He taught us, The Our Father or The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9). We use that famous prayer as an outline as we pray corporately together. The Lord’s Prayer can be a great pattern for you to use for personal prayer but it’s also a great corporate prayer pattern. In fact, the wording that Jesus uses is corporate in nature, “OUR Father…Give US today…” After we finish praying together through The Lord’s Prayer, we close by praying for our campuses and for the weekend ahead. And we do all that in one hour!

A church that prays together…stays together…thrives together…grows together…wins together! And so much more. I honestly believe our commitment to prayer as a church sets the tone for all we do!

Prayer Starter: Lord, as we pray together as a church family, respond the way you did in the book of Acts and move in a mighty way!

Today’s Prayer Focus: Pray for Encounter Weekend, that there would be a strong presence of God in our services as we dedicate ourselves to the year ahead.

***Don’t forget our first Saturday Corporate Prayer Rally TODAY at all of our Campus Locations and online - 10a CST.  Also, it’s Encounter Weekend and I will be kicking off our brand new message series, Open Heaven, this weekend in church!
