What is the purpose of Child Dedication?
Child Dedication at The Life Church has a three-fold purpose:
- The church partners with families to equip the child to love God, God’s Word, God’s House, and God’s people.
- Families celebrate and dedicate their child to the Lord.
- Families publicly display their commitment to raising their child according to God’s Word and His ways.
How can I register my child to be dedicated?
There is no registration for dedications. Simply let your child's Kids Life teacher know when you are checking them in on the weekend of the dedication. After the message in service, parents will be dismissed to pick their child up from Kids Life and return with them to Discovery for the dedication service.
How does child dedication work?
Once you are dismissed from service and have checked your child out of Kids Life, you will proceed to Discovery time of dedication and reception. A pastor will hold a moment of encouragement for the families and pray over each child.
Do I need to be a member of The Life Church to dedicate my child?
No. You don’t need to be a member of The Life Church to have your child dedicated. We do encourage families to make sure they are calling The Life Church their home church and that their beliefs line up with the beliefs, vision, and purpose of The Life Church. Learn more about what we believe.
Is Child Dedication the same thing as infant baptism or salvation?
No. We believe your child is saved by grace alone, through personal faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or of any human effort. This can only happen when a child is old enough to understand the concept of salvation and the work of Jesus on the cross. After your child reaches a place of personal faith in Jesus Christ, they may choose to get baptized. For more information on children and baptism, check out our kid's life water baptism page.
