YOUTH MINISTRY IN MEMPHIS

FAITH DOESN'T TAKE SUMMER OFF

Summer camp, conferences, and leadership experiences that keep students growing when school is out.

One of the biggest challenges families face with youth ministry is the summer drop-off. The school year ends, the regular midweek rhythm pauses, and suddenly your teenager has no consistent faith community for three months. At The Life Church in Memphis, Axis Student Ministry is built to stay active through the summer with experiences that are often the highlight of a student’s entire year.

Why Tribe Leaders Matter More Than Programs

Ask any Axis student what keeps them coming back and the answer is almost never “the service”. It is their Tribe leader. Tribes are gender and grade-specific small groups that meet after every Wednesday night Axis service, and the adult leaders who run them are consistent volunteers. They are the same faces week after week, month after month, year after year. They text your student during finals. They show up to their games. They remember the hard conversation from three weeks ago and follow up. For most Axis students, their Tribe leader becomes a trusted adult in their life.

A Summer That Builds on the Year

When the school year ends, Axis does not disappear. It shifts into a season of experiences designed to deepen what students built during the year.

“ Huge emphasis on youth ministry. There is space here for your whole family. ”

— Matthew L.

Axis Conference: The Biggest Week of the Year

Axis Conference is a multi-day youth event hosted by The Life Church in Memphis that draws students from all three locations and around the country together for worship, guest speakers, team competitions, and moments that students consistently describe as life-changing. It is not a passive spectator event. Students are active participants, competing with their teams, serving alongside leaders, and processing what God is doing in real time with their peers.

Leadership Week for Students Ready to Lead

For students who want more than just attendance, Leadership Week is a summer intensive designed to provide practical leadership lessons, deepen their involvement in church, and give them hands-on experience helping execute an Axis service. Many of the students who attend Leadership Week become leaders, worship team members, serve behind-the-scenes, and help shape the culture of Axis the following school year. It is where emerging leaders are stretched and grow.

What Parents Experience

Parents at The Life Church in Memphis consistently say that Axis gives them something rare: a ministry their teenager actually wants to attend. When your student is asking you on Tuesday night if they can go to church tomorrow, something is working. And because students also join the main Sunday service with their families, Axis is not isolated. It connects your teenager to the broader church community, not just a separate youth ministry. Every adult who serves in Axis goes through a background check and training. And the teaching your student receives on Wednesday nights reinforces what you are building at home, not competing with it.

Get Connected Before Fall

If your student is in 6th through 12th grade, summer is actually the best time to get connected. Visit the Axis Instagram @axis_students for upcoming summer dates or email [email protected]. No registration is required for Wednesday nights once the school year starts.
